#49 (ENG): Toys, pleasure & stigma with Kalila Bolton @shespotuk

DEEP&DIRTY Chat! Lisa Opel and Kalila Bolton talk toys: shame-free, uncensored and reframing pleasure.

🔗🌟 More Than Just a Toy Shop: SheSpot on Redefining Sexual Wellness

Why is women’s pleasure still such a taboo? Why do we feel embarrassed to buy sex toys, or hesitant to talk to our partners about them? And what if the toy that’s meant to bring you pleasure… melts in your drawer?

In this episode of Deep and Dirty, I had the pleasure (pun absolutely intended) of talking with Kalila Bolton, co-founder of SheSpot – a women-led sexual wellness brand that's shaking up the industry with curated pleasure products, holistic thinking, and a no-shame, bestie-level tone.

From Law to Lube: The SheSpot Origin Story

Kalila and her co-founder Holly were tired of the “sleazy and clinical” options on the market. They wanted something beautiful, inviting, and stigma-free. What started as a subscription box during the pandemic quickly evolved into an international destination for women’s sexual wellness – from vibrators and lubes to arousal oils and aphrodisiac chocolate.

Their goal? To make buying a vibrator feel as normal (and fabulous) as buying skincare. And based on the feedback – including women in their 60s purchasing their very first toy – they’re on the right track.

Pleasure as a Journey

We explored what sexual wellness really means beyond the orgasm. Kalila emphasized the importance of the entire experience – arousal, ambiance, play, and aftercare. Whether you're experimenting with hands-free vibrators, G-spot toys, or just lighting a candle and sipping a sexy tea, it’s about the ritual as much as the result.

SheSpot’s ethos is about encouraging exploration, offering guidance (yes, real humans answer their DMs!), and helping women rediscover pleasure at any stage of life – from post-kids to perimenopause and beyond.

Toys, Communication, and Confidence

We talked about how to introduce toys with a partner, the myth that they’re a "threat," and how shifting the narrative to enhancement can open up whole new layers of intimacy. Kalila even shared her favorite beginner toys, tips on materials (hint: medical-grade silicone only!), and how lube is non-negotiable.

Sex toys aren’t just about stimulation – they’re a reminder that you deserve pleasure, that you’re allowed to explore, and that it’s never too late (or too early) to start.

Education and Evolution

There’s still a lot of misinformation out there – from how to clean your toys to what kind of lube works where. But that’s exactly where SheSpot shines. It’s not just an e-commerce site – it’s a movement. A beautifully designed, educational, and empowering space where you can shop, learn, and maybe even giggle a little.

“Why Should I Buy a Toy?”

Kalila’s answer: you don’t have to. But if it helps you connect with yourself, feel more confident, or simply feel good – why wouldn’t you?

Buying a toy can be an act of self-love. And with SheSpot, it doesn’t have to feel scary or sleazy. It can feel like texting your best friend, getting that little nudge of encouragement, and finally choosing yourself.
